1 Year Update

My Dear Neighbors,

Thank you.  My campaign for Chicago’s first Elected School Board has already been an amazing ride and it is all because of you.

Some of you have donated money.  Wow, thank you so much.

Some of you have donated time.  You have been a force-multiplier. Canvassing in teams is better than doing it alone.  Than you, immensely.

Now, I need *you. You.  There are so many voters to reach.

I am fighting for a more just CPS.  All students, regardless of what zip code they are from, should receive all the school services that they need to meet their best potential in their education.

I know it works!

Growing up as a student with a mental illness disability, Bipolar 1, I was about to drop out of high school.  Instead, the school placed me in a secluded classroom that was led by a Special Education Educator and Special Education Teachers Assistants.  We would meet with the school social worker. In CPS terms, we were a classroom of Diverse Learners. This classroom provided to me the Individual Education Plan and the teachers and staff to aid me in achieving it.

These extra services empowered me to graduate and get into college at Loyola Chicago.

A fully resourced school can reach more students than a school that is not fully staffed.

Every student.  Every student. Deserves the same opportunity I had.

I have a vision: A diploma from a CPS high school is known nationally as a golden ticket into college, the skilled trades, or directly into the work force.

CPS must be recreated into a world class institution.

The Board of Education needs leaders with that bold vision.

I have been saying it since I launched my campaign a full year ago.

By the time the graduating class of 2038 enters kindergarten in 2025, the countdown clock should start.  We will have 9 years to prepare for their high school arrival.  By then, the schools the students are attending should be ready to meet their needs.  They should be ready for them.

And I want to lead the effort to form a master plan to achieve this.

I served on the Local School Council at Senn High School and later on the Disney Magnet Elementary School.  I have seen first had the positive effect team work and leadership can have on school and its students.

Even if you do not want to talk to voters, I have a lot of administrative work that I need help with that you can do from my living room or virtual.

Please reach out.

I can wait to keep this going.

Thank you,

Looking forward,

Daniel
